The Boomtown Rats - Official Press Release

Universal Music is immensely proud to announce the release of each of the six superb, groundbreaking original studio albums by The Boomtown Rats on CD for the first time, alongside The Best Of The Boomtown Rats and the first DVD retrospective on the band, Someone’s Looking At You: The Boomtown Rats On Film 1976-1986 on 7th February 2005.

Each album has been digitally remastered and comes with a stack of rare or previously unreleased bonus tracks, demos, B-sides and live cuts.

Between 1977 and 1984, The Boomtown Rats scored 14 hit singles in the UK charts, including two Number Ones, and enjoyed five chart albums. With one of the greatest bands to emerge from the musical turmoil of 1976, Bob Geldof and the multi-million selling Boomtown Rats wrote a stack of classic songs that transcended their generation and can still be heard on radio stations across the country every day.

Meanwhile, the man voted one of The Greatest Britons ever and one of our greatest songwriters, the man who started Band Aid and Live Aid, the man who has released four fine solo albums, Deep In The Heart Of Nowhere, The Vegetarians Of Love, The Happy Club and most recently, Sex, Age And Death, the man who Bono calls “a poet” goes on playing his music all over the world, while simultaneously writing his Brit, Ivor and Grammy winning songs about life, love, loss, about himself and about ourselves.

The Outstanding Contribution to Music Award will be presented to the original Boomtown Rat, Sir Bob Geldof at The BRITs25 with MasterCard. Awarded to the political punk rocker by the BPI, the accolade recognises not only an incredible musical career but also Sir Bob's role in Band Aid in 1984 and Live Aid in 1985.
