Dave available on CD

There are 2 different versions of The Boomtown Rats song 'Dave'. The LP version (from In The Long Grass) is different to the 7" single version.

The USA record company didn't like The Rats singing a blokes name, and complained that it sounded like a "faggots" song. 'Dave' was actually a slang term used for heroin.

The USA record company insisted the song was changed, else they wouldn't release it. The song was re-written to 'Rain' and released in the USA. In my opinion, the 7" single of 'Dave' is the best version.

None of the tracks from 'In The Long Grass' were thought to have ever been released on CD. However, I've recently made a discovery...

The Canadian version of the BG and BTR compilation CD 'Great Songs of Indifference' is different to the other versions. The back of the CD 'claims' that track 12 is 'Rain' and by 'Bob Geldof'.

As we know, 'Rain' was actually by The Boomtown Rats. On playing the CD, I discovered the track is not 'Rain' but is in fact the great UK single version of 'Dave'.
