And Now- Bob Geldof - In the News

Bob bans TV Rivals' Band Aid

BOB GELDOF – A Thank You.
(The Sun Newspaper - Tue, Dec 24, 2002)

The Band Aid and Live Aid mastermind has thwarted a plan for stars of Popstars: The Rivals and Fame Academy to unite on a cover version of the Band Aid single Do They Know It’s Christmas.

Geldof was approached by representatives of the shows to release a new recording of the track featuring Girls Aloud, One True Voice and the Fame Academy finalists.

But the move came just two weeks ago and Geldof felt they could not do the song justice in such a short time.

He said: “It is a good Band Aid idea, overcoming rivalry – BBC and ITV together, bringing people together.

“I just didn’t think there’d be enough time for it to be significant.

“Band Aid is there to be used, it is a tool. Remember, there was Band Aid 2 with Kylie, Jason and the whole Stock, Aitken and Waterman pop thing and other versions.

“As long as all the money goes to famine relief, that’s what is important.”
